In the course of procuring new rolling stock, Jungfrau Railways was looking for a flexible communication platform that would meet the following requirements:

• Ensuring communication between all in-train systems and the outside world
• Possibility of establishing an IP network connection for customer information systems (CIS)
• Camera connection in curved stations
• WLAN connection at depots
• Central, simplified management and configuration of vehicle routers

This is why Jungfrau Railways opted for a solution from onway:

• Secure connection from CIS Mobile to CIS Stationary through an IP tunnel
• Camera images recorded at stations sent directly to train drivers
• Low administration effort for vehicle communication devices thanks to a universal router
• Rapid transmission of high data volumes for the infotainment system
• Highly available back-end system
• Optional installation of passenger WLAN without much effort
• High-performance communication thanks to dual provider uplink

Using the fleet management onway director, Jungfrau Railways can easily manage all mobile routers and check both the location and the current status at any time. Communication between the mobile router and the redundant central VPN end points is encrypted thanks to IPsec. The mobile environment is taken into account with MobIKE. This guarantees stability and fast connections at all times. The individual requirements of the different railway and train compositions could be easily and safely integrated into the overall solution.
