Pioneering vehicle-land connection

News

With its 46 buses, AUTO AG SCHWYZ (AAGS) serves a total of 279 stops in the canton of Schwyz. The fleet currently uses various comfort systems, i.e. technologies and services that make traveling by public transport more pleasant and user-friendly. Communication between the individual vehicles and with the land side was previously carried out via different channels, which made digitalization efforts difficult and software updates cumbersome. AAGS therefore requested a proof of concept from onway in spring 2024.

Implementation of the entire network

Following the successful results of the proof of concept in April of this year, onway will now implement an entire network for AAGS. This includes a central data router equipped with two mobile radio modems in LTE advanced pro technology. This enables a sustainable and future-oriented vehicle-to-land connection. It also meets current and future cybersecurity requirements. The on-board computers of the ITCS manufacturer (innovative Intermodal Transport Control System) and the ticket printers can be connected to the new system.

onway is handling the entire project for us, from the design and implementation of the network to its operation from the landside - right through to the routers and switches.

Networking the entire infrastructure simplifies maintenance and monitoring. It also offers maximum bandwidth, which will benefit later projects and adaptation requests. A WLAN module is used in the communication system, which serves as maintenance access for the staff. The secure separation of all network participants and the high quality of service are guaranteed at all times. The previously required WLAN infrastructure on the land side can be dismantled.

The conversion of the entire fleet is planned for 2025/2026.
