Busbetrieb Olten Gösgen Gäu AG (BOGG) is an important public transport operator in the Olten, Gösgen and Gäu region. Its fleet comprises around 60 vehicles in regular service as well as additional special-purpose vehicles. Together with eight other transport companies, BOGG is part of the A-Welle fare network, which covers large parts of the canton of Aargau and the eastern districts of the canton of Solothurn.

As digitalisation advances, the requirements for technical infrastructure in vehicles are also increasing. BOGG has therefore decided to modernise its in-vehicle networking. A wide range of systems need to communicate reliably with one another and connect to a central infrastructure.

As a network integrator, onway is working with the project stakeholders to develop a future-proof network concept for BOGG’s new vehicles. The on2810 Gigabit router plays a central role, enabling communication between different systems and applications. These include passenger information, ticketing, passenger counting, advertising, video surveillance and other internal applications.

The router supports 5G and Wi-Fi and also acts as an intelligent gateway and firewall. Thanks to container technology, third-party applications can also run directly on the platform and be flexibly integrated into the vehicle architecture.

To ensure reliable connectivity between the various devices and systems within the vehicle, the network infrastructure also includes three managed Gigabit switches per vehicle.

“The requirements for networking our vehicles are becoming increasingly complex. It was therefore important to us to develop a solution that works reliably and can also be expanded in future,” says Marcel Marrazzo, Head of Technology & Sales, BOGG.

With the new infrastructure, BOGG is creating a powerful, flexible and scalable foundation for its digital applications. The first 25 new vehicles equipped with the new network solution will enter service from October 2026.
