onway: along with onway – how long have you been on board?
Andreas Kruthoff: Since 1st of June 2015.
What tasks does your role include?
I focus on the new and further development of apps and distributed systems for people.
What do you particularly enjoy about your job?
On the one hand, development across all technical layers – from back-end to front-end. This means we’ve always got a complete overview, rather than just focusing on a single aspect. And on the other hand, I enjoy not only agile software development in a team benefiting from flat hierarchies, but also the fact that the software helps people do their jobs better.
onway: Which technologies and topics do you come across in your job?
Andreas Kruthoff: Java, TypeScript, Linux and SQL in particular – and a thousand other things in between.
What professional expertise are you bringing to the table?
I am of the C64 generation. At that time, we only had 39 KB of main memory available for programming. I consider myself lucky to have turned my hobby into my profession: while studying for my Business Information Technology degree at the University of Zurich, I worked part-time in various places, then full-time in a start-up company based at Technopark in Zurich. Around the turn of the millennium – when the buzz words of the day were “dot com bubble” – I focussed on distributed systems and mobile communication. Later, I spent a few years developing software to monitor and communicate telecom data in real time for an international company, while also managing a small team. And I ultimately ended up at CloudGuard AG, which is now onway ag.
What are your plans for the future, what do you definitely want to achieve with onway?
I want to help shape the products so that they offer our customers maximum benefit while also bringing them joy. I also want to learn new things and improve my own skills.
Why onway? To me, working at / for onway means …
… being able to make a contribution throughout the entire process – from the initial idea to final implementation, and solving interesting technical problems. At onway, we use our own products, which motivates me as a software developer. I also value working with my colleagues.
Any final words?
Happy hacking!
